Panjin rice cultivation began in the Qing Dynasty. In 1928, General Zhang Xueliang established the "Farming Company" to cultivate rice on a large scale in his hometown. After the establishment of the People's Republic of China, it gradually developed into the largest state-owned farm group in Liaoning Province - a concentrated producer of rice. In 2002, the protection of the original region of Panjin rice was approved by the state, and the State Council named Panjin City as an organic rice production base. In 2003, the rice planting area was 100000 hectares, of which 85000 hectares were planted for high-quality rice. Among them, there are 37300 hectares of rice grown in crab fields, 6700 hectares of organic rice, and 6700 hectares of selenium rich rice; 733000 tons of rice were produced and 617000 tons of refined rice were processed.
